Barcamp Mobile: 3 things that I took away…

1) Birmingham is a leader on the Social Media Scene – Now, that’s not to take anything away from the Mobile community. However, many people there were not even on Twitter, which is a staple in the Birmingham Social Media Community. But the important thing is that people want to build that community (via the tech community), much like Birmingham has built it’s community.

2) Great People, Better Ideas – I was floored by the amount of great people and the ideas they are making a reality. Just take a look at @ivey and his idea for a twitter payment system. I can’t wait to see all the great things that will come out from @barcamp_mobile!

3) A state-wide Barcamp? Now that needs to be a 2 day event! – I’ve seen just a couple of posts on Twitter about it but what about a #barcampbama. What do you think? Held in Montgomery, two-day event where people come together for great networking, converstation, and ideas. This could help Alabama become one of the “hotspots” in the Social Media space…

I think a BarCampBama unconference would be awesome! Sounds like there were a lot of neat things going on down there in Mobile. I can’t wait for BarCampChattanooga, too!

I love the idea of a BarCampBama! I agree that we need to continue to hold social media networking events around the state, especially to help Alabama become a social media “hot spot”

But last year, a lot of people at BarCampBirmingham weren’t on Twitter (including me). (And Birmingham was likely behind other places in Twitter adoption.)

Sometimes it takes time, but at least Mobile jumped on board the BarCamp concept. Kudos!
