When I started this blog years (yes, years) ago, I was looking to document social media as it happened around the greater Birmingham area. But like all good things, it evolved. I now use it document some things, but I use it mostly as my own commentary on Social Media, how it changes and how it evolves.
From ‘04 when I used Facebook to get 250+ students to camp out for a basketball game in just under a week (and they still do camp out, mind you) to the whirlwind of meetings, tweetups, and conferences I’ve attended since March, Social Media is about bringing the Social back to, well, the world. Everyone has gotten so comfortable being their computers and their tweetdecks, they forget that Social Media is a great opportunity for “Social” interaction.
Tweetups, conferences, and tweets-in-passing are a great way to break out into the world and interact and there are a lot of great businesses that haven’t figured it out just yet.
I look to help bring people into the conversation by putting myself squarely in the middle of the conversation. I have no agenda. I’m not looking (specifically) for a job If something shows up, I’d probably take it. I go to and organize tweetups and meetings with local businesses to help push them in the right direction. If someone hires me for some consulting work, I use those funds to attend conferences like @NewMediaAtlanta and @SoSo.
So, to sum it up, that’s why I’m looking to go to Social Fresh. A great conference with great speakers and great attendees. I’m building a better conversations for myself so that when I bring people in, that get more value from conversations with me.
